Foucault, Jean

Pronunciation: /fo͞oˈkō/
(1819–68), French physicist; full name Jean Bernard Léon Foucault. He is chiefly remembered for the huge pendulum that he hung from the roof of the Panthéon in Paris in 1851 to demonstrate the rotation of the earth. He also invented the gyroscope.
