Gallaudet, Thomas Hopkins

Pronunciation: /ˌɡaləˈdet/
(1787–1851), US educator. In 1817, he founded the first free American school for deaf students in Hartford, Connecticut. Gallaudet University in Washington, DC, is named for him.
