Hammerstein, Oscar

Pronunciation: /ˈhamərˌstīn/
(1895–1960), US librettist; full name Oscar Hammerstein II. He collaborated with various composers, including Jerome Kern, with whom he wrote Showboat (1927), and most notably Richard Rodgers, with whom he wrote Oklahoma! (1943), South Pacific (1949), and The Sound of Music (1959).
