- The southern prickly-ash (Zanthoxylum clava-herculis, family Rutaceae), a tree of the rue family with knobby, corky protrusions on its trunk. The devil’s walking stick (Aralia spinosa, family Araliaceae), a tree of the ginseng family, with large leaves and black berries. Also called angelica tree.
- Here and there is the large-leaved, prickly stemmed Hercules' club, also known as the devil's walking-stick.
