Howells, William Dean

Pronunciation: /ˈhou-əlz/
(1837–1920), US writer and critic. He was editor-in-chief of Atlantic Monthly magazine 1871–81. His novels include The Rise of Silas Lapham (1885) and A Hazard of New Fortunes (1890).
