Entry from British & World English dictionary
Definition of intein in English:
An internal segment of amino acids that is excised from a protein precursor to generate a new protein.
- Intein excision depends on the splicing domain of the intein and the first amino acid residue of the C-extein.
- It encodes a bifunctional protein with two domains, a homing endonuclease and a self-splicing intein.
- The MSI group takes the molecule of interest - say, a protein ligand - and attaches an intein to it.
