Ismail Samani Peak

Pronunciation: /ˈismīl səˌmänē ˈpēk/
One of the principal peaks in the Pamir Mountains of Tajikistan, rising to 24,590 feet (7,495 m). It was the highest mountain in the former Soviet Union. Former names: Mount Garmo (until 1933), Stalin Peak (1933–62), Communism Peak (1962–98).

Origin

Named after the 9th-century founder of the Tajik nation.
