Jakobson, Roman

Pronunciation: /ˈyäkəbsən/
(1896–1982), US linguist; born in Russia; full name Roman Osipovich Jakobson. He taught Slavic languages and literature and general linguistics at Harvard University from 1949 to 1967. His most influential work described universals in phonology.
