Entry from British & World English dictionary
An East African cotton fabric printed in various colours and designs with distinctive borders, used especially for women’s clothing.
- Colours and designs may vary slightly from the illustration due to the nature of hand-dyed cloth and the availability of kitenge designs.
- Most of the color comes from the women wearing different kanga and kitenge wrapped at the waist or on the head (kanga and kitenge are cloths usually in two or three colors).
- A tall headdress of purple-and-gold kitenge cloth hid the contours of her hair and head.
From Kiswahili kitengele.
