Leblanc, Nicolas

Pronunciation: /ləˈbläNGk/ /-ˈbläN/
(1742–1806), French surgeon and chemist. He developed a process for making soda ash (sodium carbonate) from common salt, which enabled the large-scale manufacture of glass, soap, paper, and other chemicals.
