Liddell, Eric

Pronunciation: /ˈlidl/ /liˈdel/
(1902–45), British runner and missionary, born in China; full name Eric Henry Liddell. In the 1924 Olympic Games, he won the 400 meters in world record time. His exploits were celebrated in the movie Chariots of Fire (1981).
