Lyon, Mary Mason

Pronunciation: /ˈlīən/
(1797–1849), US educator. She founded Mount Holyoke Female Seminary (later Mount Holyoke College) in South Hadley, Massachusetts, in 1837 and served as its first president 1837–49.
