Newman, Barnett

Pronunciation: /ˈn(y)o͞omən/
(1905–70), US painter. A seminal figure in color-field painting, he juxtaposed large blocks of uniform color with narrow marginal strips of contrasting colors, such as in Who’s Afraid of Red, Yellow, and Blue III (1966–67).
