An Aboriginal language of SW Australia.
- All of the languages that were spoken in the South-West (listed above) are today known as 'Nyungar', the word for 'human being' in these languages, now used to refer to Aboriginal people of this region.
- Only a few old people now speak what is probably a simplified version of the original language of Southwestern Australia, which they call Nyungar.
The name in Nyungar, literally 'man'.
