Definition of ocnophil in English:
A personality type characterized by the avoidance of dangerous or unfamiliar situations and reliance on external objects or other people for security. Often contrasted with philobat.
- The ocnophil denies the independence of the object by clinging.
- If a part object is used for clinging, which quite frequently happens, the relationship can never be satisfactory for the ocnophil.
1950s: from Greek oknein 'hesitate' + -phil.
