Definition of oxycodone in English:
A synthetic analgesic drug which is similar to morphine in its effects.
- As a result, doctors have started to look to stronger measures to treat it - including so-called opioid analgesics like morphine and oxycodone (the active ingredient in Oxycontin).
- If appropriate dosages of a tricyclic antidepressant (preferably nortriptyline) or gabapentin do not provide adequate relief, strong opioids such as oxycodone, morphine, or methadone may be required.
- Opioid medications such as oxycodone and morphine are recommended for the treatment of severe arthritis pain when COX - 2 drugs and nonspecific NSAIDs fail to provide adequate relief.
