Penderecki, Krzysztof

Pronunciation: /ˌpendəˈretskē/
(1933-), Polish composer. His music frequently features sounds drawn from extramusical sources and note clusters, as in his Threnody for the Victims of Hiroshima (1960) for fifty-two strings. Notable religious works: Stabat Mater (1962) and Polish Requiem (1980–84).
