Pitcairn Islands

Pronunciation: /ˈpitkern ˌīləndz/
A British overseas territory comprising a group of volcanic islands in the South Pacific Ocean, east of French Polynesia. Discovered in 1767, the islands remained uninhabited until settled in 1790 by mutineers from HMS Bounty.

Origin

Named after the midshipman who first sighted the islands.
