Quasimodo, Salvatore

Pronunciation: /ˌkwäzēˈmōdō/
(1901–68), Italian poet. His early work was influenced by French symbolism but his later work was more concerned with political and social issues. Notable works: Water and Land (1930) and And It’s Suddenly Evening (1942). Nobel Prize for Literature (1959).
