1A Greek island in the southeastern Aegean Sea, off the Turkish coast. It is the largest of the Dodecanese Islands and the most easterly of the islands in the Aegean Sea; population 130,000 (est. 2004). Greek name Ródhos.
1.1The capital of the island of Rhodes, a port on the northern tip; population 55,900 (est. 2009). It was founded circa 408 bc and was the site of the Colossus of Rhodes.
