Entomology
A beetle of a large group that includes the scarabaeids, dor beetles, and stag beetles. Scarabaeoids include the largest known beetles, and are distinguished by having platelike terminal segments to the antennae. Formerly called lamellicorn.

late 19th century: from modern Latin Scarabaeoidea (plural), from Latin scarabaeus (see scarab).
