Schlegel, August Wilhelm von

Pronunciation: /ˈSHlāɡəl/
(1767–1845), German romantic poet and critic, who was among the founders of art history and comparative philology. His brother, Friedrich von Schlegel (1772–1829), was a critic, philosopher, and poet who wrote on comparative literature and philology.
