Sibelius, Jean

Pronunciation: /siˈbālēəs/
(1865–1957), Finnish composer; born Johan Julius Christian Sibelius. His affinity for his country’s landscape and legends, especially the epic Kalevala, is expressed in a series of symphonic poems including The Swan of Tuonela (1893), Finlandia (1899), and Tapiola (1925).
