( 1818–1910), French ballet dancer and choreographer, resident in Russia from 1847; full name Marius Ivanovich Petipa. Petipa choreographed more than fifty ballets, working with Tchaikovsky on Sleeping Beauty (1890) and The Nutcracker (1892).
