The chief mountain system of North America, which extends from the US-Mexico border to the Yukon Territory of northern Canada. It forms the Continental Divide. Several peaks rise to over 4,300 m (14,000 ft), the highest being Mount Elbert at 4,399 m (14,431 ft).
