Bourbaki, Nicolas

Pronunciation: /ˌbʊəˈbɑːki/
A pseudonym of a group of mathematicians, mainly French, attempting to give a complete account of the foundations of pure mathematics. Their first publication was in 1939.

Origin

The group was named, humorously, after a defeated French general of the Franco-Prussian War (1870–1).
