Buckland, William

Pronunciation: /ˈbʌklənd/
(1784–1856), English geologist. He helped to redefine geology, correlating deposits and associated fossils with former conditions, and developed the idea of an ice age. He was the first to describe and name a dinosaur (Megalosaurus), in 1824.
