Cowper, William

Pronunciation: /ˈkuːpə/
(1731–1800), English poet, best known for his long poem The Task (1785) and the comic ballad John Gilpin (1782). In 1779 he wrote Olney Hymns with the evangelical minister John Newton (1725–1807).
