Fichte, Johann Gottlieb

Pronunciation: /ˈfɪçtə/
(1762–1814), German philosopher. A pupil of Kant, he postulated that the ego is the basic reality and that the world outside it is posited by the ego in defining and delimiting itself. His political addresses had some influence on the development of German nationalism and the overthrow of Napoleon.
