Hawthorne, Nathaniel

Pronunciation: /ˈhɔːθɔːn/
(1804–64), American novelist and short-story writer. Much of his fiction explores guilt, sin, and morality. Notable works: Twice-Told Tales (short stories, 1837), The Scarlet Letter (1850), and The House of the Seven Gables (1851).
