Keller, Helen

(1880–1968), American writer, social reformer, and academic; full name Helen Adams Keller. Blind and deaf from the age of nineteen months, she learned how to read, type, and speak with the help of a tutor. She went on to champion the cause of blind and deaf people throughout the world.
