A soil of an order comprising temperate grassland soils with a dark, humus-rich surface layer containing high concentrations of calcium and magnesium.
- These include sand and gravel deposits which are poorly vegetated, sandy entisols which support marshes and bottomland hardwood forests, and mollisols with scattered Bur oaks with prairie grasses and forbs.
- Soils of this habitat appear to be true mollisols with pH range of 5.7 to 6.7 and very high calcium content.
