Definition of non-factive in English:
Denoting a verb that takes a clausal object which may or may not designate a true fact, e.g. believe as opposed to know. Contrasted with contrafactive, factive.
- This investigation studied the development of certain predicates called factives, such as "sad,""happy,""know," and "true," by studying the semantic effects of negation on the complements of both factive and non-factive predicates.
