Playfair, John

Pronunciation: /ˈpleɪfɛː/
(1748–1819), Scottish mathematician and geologist. A friend of James Hutton, he summarized the latter’s views for a wider readership in his Illustrations of the Huttonian Theory of the Earth (1802).
