A characteristic assemblage of pollen obtained by pollen analysis. Each zone (denoted by a Roman numeral) corresponds to one of the climatic stages of the late-glacial and postglacial periods.
- At all sites where it is present, pollen zone C (Artemisia) corresponds with sediment of very low organic content.
- The base of the pollen diagram from site D can be dated to pollen zone VI.
