Richardson, Samuel

Pronunciation: /ˈrɪtʃəds(ə)n/
(1689–1761), English novelist. His first novel Pamela (1740-1), entirely in the form of letters and journals, popularized the epistolary novel. He experimented further with the genre in Clarissa Harlowe (1747-8).
