Stoppard, Sir Tom

(B.1937), British playwright, born in Czechoslovakia; born Thomas Straussler. His best-known plays are comedies, often dealing with metaphysical and ethical questions, for example Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead (1966), which is based on the characters in Hamlet.
