A small brownish-grey Eurasian lizard which gives birth to live young which have hatched from eggs inside the female.
- Lacerta vivipara, family Lacertidae. Alternative name: common lizard.
- The creatures in question are evenly spaced and their spines are curved, typical of the position and posture of embryos in present-day viviparous lizards.
- Along with the loss of heather and cottongrass, birds such as the nightjar, woodlark and stone curlew and animals including the adder, grass snake, and viviparous lizard have been put at risk.
