Weil, Simone

Pronunciation: /vʌɪl/
/vɛj/
(1909–43), French essayist, philosopher, and mystic. During the Second World War she joined the resistance movement in England and died of tuberculosis while weakened by voluntary starvation in identification with her French compatriots.
